An impressive Victorian silver and hippopotamus tusk mounted coromandel wood rectangular smokers compendium, comprising two 'cigarette' drawers, tusk and hippopotamus head handles, two monogrammed removable ashtrays, four 'tusk' tapers (one replacement), removable hippopotamus head and tusk mounted lidded box, maker's mark for Henry William Dee, London, 1878, (locks detached but present), the compendium with studded silver mounts, on four casters, width approx. 48cm.

No key. All tusk mounts are damaged (chipped, cracked or pieces missing). Four circular nuts are present but detached from the two oval dishes flanked by two tusks (currently not fixed) and only one is hallmarked. One tusk mount missing as the taper has been replaced and is not original. There are visible minor splits to the veneer around the plinth base. The oval dishes have both got applied monograms to their centre. One of the taper holes modelled as the hippo head nostrils is a little misshapen around the rim. The letters A & E are missing from the word cigarette on one of the drawer handles. Hallmarks clear.
