An exceedingly rare Staffordshire coloured biscuit figure of the London Barber, c.1795–1800, 15.5cm high. Condition - possibly a test piece that is misfired and not over glazed with some roughness to the base, evidence of the pearlware glaze on the very edge of the foot only.
The plinth is impressed DEP GOBBLE WIG THE LONDON BARBER. There are only two other recorded examples of this figure, one in Brighton Museum’s Willett Collection, illustrated in People, Passions, Pastimes, and Pleasures: Staffordshire Figures 1810-1835, page 306.
