Condition:
The Kings are definitely 10cm high. All of the chessmen are loaded with what looks to be probably later baize to the undersides. Ebonised - crack to base of King, chipping around the coronet of the Queen, crack to base of one bishop, hairline crack to the base of the other, one knight with red crown mark to the top of the head, ebonising slightly rubbed around the base, one castle with red crown stamp to the top, a little dirty around the base, two pawns with sections missing from their collars, four pawns with cracking to their bases or old repairs to their bases. Boxwood - King with Jacques London stamp, a little faded and spotted, Queen a little faded, one knight with red crown stamp, one castle with red crown stamp, slight fading to the pawns, one with section missing from its collar, another with possibly replaced collar. Box in bright shiny condition, original faded velvet interior, silk strapwork for the hinges etc. is mostly missing, minor chips around the edges, original label below 'The Staunton Chessmen', with number 2563. The label looks original, has some slight staining matching the blue paper.
