An early 18th century black japanned dome top trunk, decorated in the chinoiserie style with figures in landscapes, including men hunting a tiger, on later ebonised stand, W.3ft 9in. D.1ft 8in. H.2ft 5in.

Top of the trunk is rubbed with approx 50% of the decoration now rubbed away, a number of splits running across the top more prominent on the left side than the right, along with various fine surface dents and scratches, elsewhere the front again is rubbed to some extent, there is a greek key type banding that may have been gilt and one time and certainly faded away, this is similar on the sides, ornate ormolu handles are old but not original, there are filled holes between the handles where some other form of handle was once attached, latch and escutcheon both of quality with some wear to the gilding, no key present, interior with fine surface scratches and dents, stand rubbed around the edges, no decoration to the back of the trunk which is plain black painted.
