An 18th/19th century violin, labelled 'Thomas Balestrieri Cremonensis Fecit Mantua Anno 1761', possibly a contemporary copy by Klotz, Mittenwald, with medium curl to the back sides and neck, the varnish of golden brown tone worn pale in places, length of back 35.5cm

Provenance - the previous owner was Neil Waldron who played with The Old Barn Orchestral Society who died c.1980. Original receipt from C. Blackman, violin repairer dated 25 February 1960 at the time believed to a contemporary Italian copy.

General wear to edges. Short crack near sound post. Fine cracks to each end of right 'F' holes and beneath the bridge, to the upper right hand side and lower part of the top. A number of visible cracks to the back. Replacement section of purfling upper left of back. Splits to ribs next to bottom block and left hand C - bout. Peg holes filled and re-drilled.
