Lot 656 , An 18th century gold, Stuart Crystal and diamond set mourning skull ring, size J approx.

An 18th century gold, Stuart Crystal and diamond set mourning skull ring, size J approx.

An 18th century gold, Stuart Crystal and diamond set mourning "skull" ring, the central oval cut rock crystal panel flanked by rose cut diamonds (shank a.f.), size J approx.
Estimate £250-300

One end of the shank has become detached at the shoulder. It appears to be and old repair as there is visible lead solder beneath. The construction on the other shoulder appears similar, so there may be a possibilty that the shank section may be a later addition?? The collet setting for the diamonds is very worn. There is also a small chip to the rock crystal by the collet setting (worn also) and some surface scratches and wear to the surface of the crystal. Difficult to see condition around the skull, due to scratches on the crystal, but there appears to be some strands of hair visible. Gross weight is 1.7 grams. Diamonds approx. 0.10-0.12cts each. Gold unmarked.
