Lot 451 , After Armfield oil on canvas Spaniels chasing pheasant(-)
After Armfield
oil on canvas,
Spaniels chasing pheasant,
partially erased signature, dated 1876,
28 x 36in.
Estimate £200-300
Oil on canvas relined some years ago, canvas remains tight, paint looks a little dirty with a few small surface scratches, extensive loss of the paint across the bottom running upwards to just beyond 2 inches into the work where approx. 50% of the paint is missing, this also runs through the signature making it rather hard to read, however signature does not appear to be that of Armfield. Housed in a later moulded gilt frame, no labels or inscriptions verso.
