Lot 42 , A violin with two-piece back 22.5in.

A violin with two-piece back 22.5in.

A violin with two-piece back cased with two bows 22.5in.
Estimate £300-500

Back 14in.
The violin is in fairly good condition, with just typical scratches and wear to the varnish and on the edges with age and use. There is a crack to the back of the scroll running vertically which is visible inside beneath the pegs. We would expect this to be French early 20th century. The construction of the two-piece back has internally some bosses holding the join together which are chamfered on the corners. There are no splits to the body or near the sound post. The bridge is stamped De Jacques us.pat.3.134.28, made in France. Unfortunately the violin has no labels or stamps. Both of the bows are 20th century with nickel fittings and no maker's stamps but are in reasonable condition
