A set of twelve Chinese Buddhist pottery zodiac animals, Song Dynasty (AD 960-1279) or the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279-1368), two of the animals have faint traces of Sanskrit-type characters on their backs in red pigment, approximately 12cm long

Condition:
This type of pottery zodiac animal is quite distinctive and comes from a Buddhist site in Yunnan province. The details have been individually sculpted as opposed to having been formed by a mould. The twelve animals comprise the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. There is some wear, possibly minor chips, one ear re-stuck, otherwise, very good condition.
