A sampler by Elizabeth King, dated July 20th 1801, worked on a fine linen ground with a wide vining floral border and finely stitched alphabet, with rows stylistic floral motifs, trees and birds between geometric borders and a verse, a central floral cartouche with name, age and date. 31.5cm x 40cm.

Condition:
The paper backing has torn allowing the linen to discolour in places. Some colours have faded due to age and sun, but there are no moth holes. The sampler would benefit mounting on a new card backing for preservation purposes.
