As well as being an avid collector of early Derby porcelain, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote one of the key reference works on the subject - 'Derby Porcelain, The Golden Years 1750-1770' published in 1983. A number of the pieces illustrated in the book will be offered for sale.

The ram ex Simon Spero, May 2002 for £3,500.
The ewe ex Stockspring Antiques, March 1991 for £750.

The ram has fine crazing to the thick glassy glaze all over and restoration to his left ear, right horn tip and a section of the edge of the base next to his right hindleg.

The ewe has restoration to both ears and the immediate area around the ears, and a crack running across her left side and back. There is a slightly matt area to the glaze around the neck and some lossed to the applied leaves on the base.
