A rare and impressive George Grainger & Co. Worcester topographical dessert service centrepiece, c.1846, finely painted in enamel colours with the titled view 'Town Hall Worcester', within rich gilt and crimson borders bearing the coat of arms of Worcester and the city motto 'CIVITAS IN BELLO IN PACE FIDELIS', with flamboyant acanthus leaf moulded and pierced handles and stem, height 27.5cm

Provenance:
Presented by the City of Worcester to the Mayor, Alderman William Lewis c. 1846 in recognition of his work in bringing the railway to Worcester. William Lewis Esquire was Mayor of Worcester in 1843-44 and 1846.

This impressive dish is painted with the Town Hall, Worcester where William Lewis had his Mayoral office.


There are hairline glaze cracks across the joins of both the handles which do not appear to go through the actual porcelain body, very minor wear to the gilding otherwise in good condition with no restoration of chips.
