A rare Martin Brothers 'Wheel Boy, Bench Boy and Thrower' stoneware plaque, dated 1882, modelled with relief figures, wheel, benches and pots, this plaque also documents the name of each worker and is incised below each figure - ‘“Wheel Boy” Tom Cox, “Bench Boy” Elvin Kellord, “Thrower” Edwin Bruce Martin’, incised upper left ‘Southall Pottery. Condition:
Provenance - receipt of purchase from D. H. Edmonds Ltd., Brighton, 1989, for £2,750. Various over glazed firing cracks particularly to the plinth and to the top edge, typical glaze imperfections, honeycomb construction to the back. The inscription lower left of Tom Cox is slightly obliterated by an over glazed chip otherwise in good condition.
