A rare George Grainger & Co. Worcester part dessert service, c.1846, each piece painted in enamel colours with the coat of arms of Worcester and the city motto 'CIVITAS IN BELLO IN PACE FIDELIS', and gilded with the initials 'WL' in a garter, within rich gilt and crimson borders, comprising a pair of twin-handled sauce tureens covers and stands, with acanthus leaf moulded handles and pierced stems, height 25cm and twenty dessert plates, diameter 23.5cm (26)

THE LEWIS SERVICE to be offered in the following eight lots.
An important George Grainger & Co. dessert service presented by the City of Worcester to the Mayor, Alderman William Lewis c. 1846 in recognition of his work in bringing the railway to Worcester. William Lewis Esquire was Mayor of Worcester in 1843-44 and 1846.


The plates have some occasional wear to the gilding in the wells where the plates have been stacked at one stage and occasional minor scratching to the glaze, otherwise all items in good condition with no restorations, chips or cracks.
