A rare Derby seated figure of a pug dog, c.1830, modelled by Edward Keys, Condition - two ball feet reglued and right ear chipped. H. 8.5cm

cf. Dennis G. Rice, Dogs in English porcelain, colour plate 25. Unlike the example illustrated by Rice this rare version is raised on four ball feet.

The dog - the two hind feet have both been off and re-glued with the surrounding areas. There is a hairline crack over the top of his front left shoulder with another hairline crack emanating from this leading up to his back. He is missing most of his right ear. There is also loss to the green paint to the right of his tail as well as other minor losses of paint. Hairline crack to his front right ankle, and a fine hairline crack leading from his right armpit over his back, possibly meeting the other hairline crack.
