A rare 1680 (360cm length x 28cm deep) flounce of Point de neige, being an elaborate finely raised Venetian needle-point lace, a scaled down version of gros point, this flounce worked into tiny floral and leaf shapes, joined together by fine star shaped picots, creating the effect of tiny flakes of snow. This delicate lace made painstakingly with a needle and fine hand spun linen threads, was probably commissioned for nobility, the church, or royalty. It is still as it was commissioned as a flounce, possibly a length cut and used from it, however this length appears to have never been used.
Condition - very good, a few small losses to be expected for its age and handling over the centuries.
