A pair of late Victorian novelty silver pepperettes by Saunders & Shepherd, each modelled as a seated rat, 2.25in.

A pair of late Victorian novelty silver pepperettes by Saunders & Shepherd, each modelled as a seated rat, with textured "fur" and hinged bases, London, 1890, 2.25in.
Estimate £400-600

There appears to be a slight surface split or two to the silver to the underside of the feet of each rat close to the hallmarks, One of the hinged lids is very stiff and when opened a large amount of green oxidisation is visible due to the salt??. Overall condition is otherwise good. Hallmarks are clear although there is some rubbing to both sets of maker's marks.
