A pair of late Victorian Holland & Sons satinwood dwarf bookcases, with brass anthemion pattern back rails, crossbanded tops and two glazed doors enclosing two adjustable shelves, on plinth foot, W.3ft 3in. D.1ft 4in. H.4ft
Estimate £1,000-1,500

Both slightly faded but still retaining a fair golden satinwood tone with the exception of fronts of the doors which are a little paler, both tops have plate glass covers, actual tops have fine surface scuffing and scratching commensurate with use, a dark wood crossbanding is in place that might be pear wood with a further box and ebony stringing around it. Holland & Sons stamp is to the top edge of the right hand door, both bookcases have a seperate key, however one lock is not working and is currently locked shut, internally the leather fringes have faded from puce down to pale pink tone with traces of the original gilding, equally the inlaid fronts of the shelves have faded where exposed through the glass, slight differences in tone to the sides of the bookcases, all are in good condition other than slight fading, minor scuffing around the plinth feet, overall a handsome pair of bookcases just with some slight fading in places.
