As well as being an avid collector of early Derby porcelain, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote one of the key reference works on the subject - 'Derby Porcelain, The Golden Years 1750-1770' published in 1983. A number of the pieces illustrated in the book will be offered for sale.

Both vases have areas of fine crazing to the glaze. The first vase has a section of the rim broken and re-stuck and large losses to encrusted flowers and the applied ribbons. The second vase has been broken at the stem and re-stuck, has losses to the encusted flowers and applied ribbons, tiny chips to the edge of the rim, kiln grit to the rim and overglazed firing cracks to the foot.
