A pair of Chinese famille rose yellow ground boxes and covers, second half 19th century, each painted with shou medallions, bats, peaches and ribbon tied ruyi heads on a yellow ground, 24.5cm diam.

From the collection of the late Lieutenant General Sir Lewis Macclesfield Heath (d.1954). Thence by family descent.

One box base has a shallow 4mm x 2mm splinter chip to the inner rim and some wear to the gilding on the cover, the second box has some scratching to the glaze of the cover and some wear to the gilding, the base has a 12mm x 7mm shallow splinter chip to the inner rim, otherwise good.
