A pair of Chinese archaistic famille verte jars and covers, 19th century, each painted with stylised scrolls leaves and tendrils, the shoulder with ruyi head shaped floral lappets, with two similar covers the design to the top the same but the border different, underglaze blue double circle to base, height 23.5cm and 24cm, one cover broken and glued, two wood stands

Provenance - A. E. Bateman; thence by family descent.
Bateman was the representative for the prominent British merchant firm Dodwell & Co. in Kyobashi in the 1920s. The firm operated in Shanghai and Yokohama from the late 19th to mid 20th century, acting as a major import/export and shipping agent.

Condition:
One of the covers has been badly broken and re-glued, both jars and other cover in good condition with typical minor glaze imperfections a little grubby and would benefit from a clean, otherwise no restoration, chips or cracks detected.
