A mid 19th century German ivory tankard, carved with a procession of bacchanalian figures, putti and peacock, the hinged lid with foliate thumbpiece surmounted by a figure playing a lute, the handle modelled as embracing putti, height 10.5in.

Lid: Hairline cracks to face of putto and lute.
Handle: Discoloured from handling. Some minor hairline cracks at join to body and in torso of putto.
Body: Some discolouration, very minor chips and wear commensurate with age and use. There is a small hole beneath the leg of the figure to the right of the handle. Four discoloured cracks are visible in the interior. The base has several shrinkage cracks between sections.
