A mid 17th century Italian silk polychrome embroidered liturgical scene of the Madonna with Christ the child and infant St John the Baptist. The scene an embroidered interpretation after renaissance master Venture Salimbeni prints. Worked in silk with couched vessel, silver and gold highlights and edgings. Indistinguishable script just visible above the Madonna’s head. The embroidery bordered with silver passementerie and crimson velvet, 43cm x 32cm. Condition; there is wear to the silk in places, with some fading and darkening. Possible restoration and outlining of eyes. The decorative red braiding faded and the crimson velvet worn.
