A magnificent group of Afghanistan, Indian General Service, Boer War, and Great War of eleven medals, awarded to General Sir John Eccles Nixon, GCMG KCB, who was the General responsible for the disastrous first British Expedition against Baghdad, in Mesopotamia, consisting:- The Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George, GCMG., Knight Grand Cross set of insignia, collar chain, of early 20th Century manufacture, silver-gilt and enamel, the links alternatively composed of winged lions royally crowned, Maltese crosses enamelled in white, and the cyphers SM and SG, having in the centre of the collar an imperial crown over two uncrowned winged lions of St Mark, passant gardant, each holding in his fore paw a book and seven arrows, with two similar lions, but un-crowned, at the opposite end of the chain, extremely fine. 465 grms. gross.
Sash badge, a silver-gilt seven pointed star with V shaped extremities, enamelled white and edged with gold, surmounted by an imperial crown.
A silver star of seven groups of rays, with a gold ray between each group, surmounted overall by the cross of St George in red enamel. In the centre is a representation of St Michael encountering Satan within a blue circular riband bearing the motto: AUSPICIUM MELIORIS AEVI ( a token of a better age).
The Most Honourable Order of the Bath K.C.B Knight Commander’s set of insignia, comprising neck badge, silver gilt and enamels, and breast star, silver with gold and enamel appliqué centre, reverse fitted with gold pin for wearing.

Together with The ‘Madras’’ photo album, of black and white photographs, relating General Sir John Eccles Nixon and Lady Nixon, for the year 1905, when Sir John was Commander of the Bangalore Brigade, including views of the ceremony of the Delhi Durbar (Court of Delhi), military camps and operations of Cavalry Division A Force, family recreational pursuits, a group and portrait image of Major General MacArthur, U.S,A; etc., (69 images) and a fragment of a Boer War Mauser rifle bullet.
