Lot 427 , A late Victorian mahogany studio easel, W.2ft 8in. H.6ft 1in.

A late Victorian mahogany studio easel, W.2ft 8in. H.6ft 1in.

A late Victorian mahogany studio easel, with cranked adjustment and brass side handles, W.2ft 8in. H.6ft 1in.
Estimate £2,500-3,000

Overall impression of this is easel is that is in honest used condition, there is staining discolouration to the main body of the frame commensurate with use, paint splattering to the lower half and scuffing and wear to the base all as one would expect from an easel of this age, the crank handle works to raise the easel albeit in need of some greasing, there would have been a central slide to the middle upright bar which is now missing, this looks like it may have been a metal slide, there are some old pin holes showing at the back of it, otherwise there are two recessed brass sockets to the left and right of the front which would at some point have had some kind of attachment we assume, castors are the original mahogany examples which again show wear commensurate with use but are complete, overall this is a handsome piece in honest condition.
