A late Victorian 9ct gold guard chain with gem set entwined serpent slide, 45in.

Gross weight is 36.5 grams. Stamped 9ct only. Overall condition is good with no visible damge to any of the stones however there appears to be a soft putty like material alond with part of a matchstick? wedged inbetween the coiled body, perhaps to prevent the slide from moving??? Length of snake is 39mm.
