Lot 4 , A late 19th century French parcel gilt silver magnifying glass, 7.5in.
A late 19th century French parcel gilt silver magnifying glass, with angel handle, in a fitted box for Carpenter & West of Regent Street, 7.5in.
Estimate £200-300
By repute this hand mirror belonged to Eugenie de Montijo, the former Empress Consort of Louis Napoleon Emperor of the French who went into Exile in the United Kingdom in 1871.
Glass is in good order, as is the metal work which does appear to at one time have been either completely or partly gilt with much of the gilding now rubbed away but no other faults noted, box looks original, small damages where the top lid of the box meets the clasp and the top edge of the lid is missing, scuffing to the leather covering of the box.
