A late 18th century mahogany longcase clock, Robert Clark of London, 7ft 4in.

A late 18th century mahogany longcase clock, Robert Clark of London, the 12 inch dial with arcaded Roman and Arabic chapter ring, including seconds dial and calendar aperture, the last arch with painted moon motif, the weight driven five pillar two train movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on a bell, case, dial and movement associated, 7ft 4in.
Estimate £300-500

The case has been re-finished and is of a fairly pale overall colour, the base mouldings have become detached, there are the usual bumps knocks and scrapes on the mouldings and to the extremities, the finials are replacements, the cheeks have been adjusted slightly on the right hand side, this may be an indication that this is a marriage, the dial has had the arch attached which indicates that it is a later adjustment to the dial, there are also vacant dial seat holes in the dial plate and there are empty dial feet holes in the front plate of the movement again suggesting this is a marriage, the bottom dial feet have been attached to the front feet via two brackets yet again purporting the fact that this is a marriage, movement is dirty and the plates have been cleaned with an ammonia solution leaving them rather dull but it does function, not guaranteed, the steel work has some active rust.
