A large early 18th century possibly French polychrome and gold metallic silk embroidered wall hanging, with scrolling vine and floral border. The central motifs embroidered with an elaborate metallic thread cartouche framing baskets and urns containing fruit, flowers, around swags and birds, with a large symbolic central metallic embroidered mask.
317cms high x 201cms wide, measured from metallic border to metallic border edging

£1,000-1,500

Condition:
Above measurements are now correct. At some point the hanging has been folded and become damp, so that the cream silk background embroidery has light coloured staining throughout, mostly where the blue silk thread embroidery has bled into it. There are a few patches at the back which look to be re-enforcing the embroidery, possibly later or may be original. There is one section to the right lower part of hanging that has a cluster of large holes, possibly moth and against the light a few smaller over pulls /holes in the embroidery
