A large Jaques weighted boxwood and ebony chess set, c.1850, with 4.5 inch king, complete with thirty two pieces, the white king marked J Jaques, London, housed in a folding morocco bound chessboard modelled as two books

Ebony pieces extensive damage to castle top on one rook, chip to castle top and circular base on other rook, both bishops with finials missing, one with crack to base, minor wear and marks to both knights, queen appears to be in reasonable condition, king has his cross feel missing, largish chip to his circular border and also a chip to the base, two pawns have chips to their circular collars, two pawns have chips and cracks around their circular bases, two other pawns with small chips to circular bases, remaining two pawns reasonable.

Boxwood pieces - one rook has small repair around circular base, one bishop has top finial missing, both knights in reasonable condition with minor wear, queen appears to be in reasonable condition with minor natural turning faults, king also inr reasonable condition, six pawns in reasonable condition, one pawn with chip to its circular collar, the remaining with raised scratches to ball finial.
The book shaped folding chessboard quite scruffy with areas of loss, scuffing, general marks etc.
