Lot 205 , A large Chinese/Japanese bronze censer modelled as Wenshu riding a lion-dog, 17th/18th century 40 cm high, 35 cm long
A large Chinese/Japanese bronze censer modelled as Wenshu riding a lion-dog, 17th/18th century
with gilt and silver lacquer highlights, removable figure and tail to the lion,
40 cm high, 35 cm long
£500-700
Condition:
There are typical casting imperfections. The silvered lacquered decoration in particular has flaked off in areas and it’s possible that the gilt lacquer is later to the figure of Wenshu. The figure of Wenshu removes and slots in position as does the tail of the mythical beast. A section of Wenshu’s robes has been broken off and re-glued, otherwise in reasonable condition.
