Lot 505 , A handsome set of six Victorian cast silver gilt tables table salts three modelled as Neptune & Triton

A handsome set of six Victorian cast silver gilt tables table salts three modelled as Neptune & Triton

A handsome set of six 19th century continental cast silver gilt nautical table salts, three modelled as Neptune and three modelled as Triton, each with scaled amphibious tails supporting a shell shaped dish, import marks for Joseph Pyke, London, 1878, height 3.75in 75.5 oz.
Estimate £3,000-5,000

The three tridents are unmarked and most likely to be replacements. There is the odd area in general where some very slight wear to the gilding has occurred due to repetitive handling. Generally in overall nice clean condition with clear hallmarks.
The following observations may well be casting flaws-
There is a small split to the inner rim of one of the Neptune salts, close to the end of the horn and there is a split to the surface of the silver behind and to the side of the left knee.
One of the other Neptunes has a small hole to the top front of the horn and a very small surface split to the silver behind the left knee.
One of the Triton salts has a tiny hole to the right calf and a tiny hole to the right tip of the left tail.
