A garnet brooch, second half 19th century, designed in the Archaeological Revival style, centring on a large foiled cabochon garnet measuring approximately 25 x 21mm, within a border applied with rope twist decoration and green and white enamel, mounted in gold, the reverse with a glazed compartment for hair, length 4.2cm
Condition: minor chips to enamel, replaced pin fitting, pendant hoop possibly removed to reverse, some roughness to surface at the reverse where this has been done. Not obvious from front - otherwise generally in good condition - garnet is particularly impressive and attractive.
