A finely worked sampler by Maria Thurgood, dated 14th November 1827. The sampler packed with finely embroidered motifs, the central motif of a large altar with lambs of God surrounded by motifs of birds, butterflies, rabbits, deer, trees, urns of flowers and small verse, all within a wide vining border, 30cm x 39cm. Condition - certain colours have faded with sun light; mostly, greens, pinks and reds. The linen backing is sound and there are no moth holes.

Needlework not moth-damaged but daylight has faded the colours. Frame gilding worn and discoloured; all corners chipped.
