A fine quality 19th century Sheraton revival marquetry inlaid satinwood display cabinet, W.5ft 2in. D.1ft 6.5in. H.6ft 10in.

A fine quality 19th century Sheraton revival marquetry inlaid satinwood display cabinet, retailed by Hamptons of Pall Mall, London, with three astragal glazed doors over two central drawers flanked by wing cupboards and understage, on square tapered legs, W.5ft 2in. D.1ft 6.5in. H.6ft 10in.
Estimate £1,500-2,000

Two dents in the moulded cornice at the top left corner, one of these has been stained to disguise it, the other one could do with at the least a little staining to make it less notable, overall very good rich dark golden satinwood tone, all three of the escutcheons are missing, these may once have been in ivory, a small loss of the moulding of the upper section at the base of it at the lower left corner, internal fabric possibly original and suffering from sun bleaching, some small loss of moulding to the opposite right side lower corner - this has probably occured when the piece has been moved as it does split into two sections and that is the natural place where removers hands would fall, staying with the upper section the central ribbon motif in the middle of the central door has had to the two ends of its ribbon broken away to the left and right side, these pieces are in envelope in the drawer as is one ivory escutcheon and a few other small strips of veneer notably three projecting bandings that run around the front left leg, comes with a key that operates all five locks, centre top drawer has an ivorine plaque for Hampton's of Pall Mall, tiny piece of moulding missing from the apron scroll to the left just below the bottom drawer, four strips of raised veneer missing around the top of the squared legs, three of these are present in the envelope, understage is good, some light scuffing around the feet, overall this is a fine quality cabinet with need for some minor cosmetic repairs.
