A fine Japanese gold and silver damascened iron box by Komai, Meiji period, the cover decorated with a view of Chureiti Pagoda with Mount Fuji beyond, the sides with alternating arcaded panels of birds, flowers and landscapes, on four bracket feet, engraved dragonfly and square nine character seal mark, W. 13.7cm

The cover has a few minor scratches such as above Mount Fuji and top left, there is a tiny patch of raised gilding on the lower edge of the cover, the interior of the cover is engraved with birds amid wisteria and has some slight toning to the gilding, the sides of the box have some minor scratching but decoration looks good and the interior of the box is engraved with the figure of an eagle on a pine branch looking onto two birds its about to hunt, again there is some toning and slight discolouration to the interior base of the box and the bracket feet which appear to be solid bronze have some fine engraving to them and then the very base panel of the box is engraved with the Komai nine character dragonfly seal mark and flowers and foliage, again with some slight toning to the gilding in the corners, the inner sleeve of the box where the cover fits has a couple of minor nicks / dents on the edge, otherwise in generally good condition. It is magnetic
