A bottle of Dow 1945, high fill, remnants of label, no capsule, cork appears dry and sound, good colour for age. What better place to start a super selection of vintage ports in this year's sale than with the '45 vintage, one of the greatest of the century. Case-quantities of wines this age are exceptionally rare but single bottles turn up from time to time and can be purchased for relatively drinker-friendly sums.
