A Victorian red morocco despatch box, formerly the property of the Right Honourable Viscount Cross GCBGCSI, with Royal ciphers and naming to the top, interior in black leather with maker's stamp for John Pound & Co of Leadenhall Street,

Richard Assheton Cross, 1st Viscount Cross, 1823-1914, was a Conservative politician and Home Secretary in the governments of Benjamin Disraeli and Lord Salisbury. He was latterly appointed Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster by Queen Victoria. width 46cm, depth 28cm, height 15cm

Condition:
Overall in fair to good condition, the outer leather a little scuffed particularly at the corners with some scattered dirt marks, interior a little scuffed at the back of the lid and elsewhere, lock is original, looks to be a Bramah type and has working key but signed by the case maker.
