A Victorian novelty silver propelling pencil modelled as a Royal Mail pillar box, by W. Thornhill & Co, with "VR" monogram engraved on the barrel, maker's inscription only, 2.25in closed.

The mechanism extends ok but is much harder to close. The engraved monogram on the front is quite tired as is the emblem below the letter slot. The tip of the pencil holder is slightly loose and protrudes from the bottom of the barrel when upright. Unable to comment on the internal metal pin drive as not visible. There appears to be no evidence of any enamelling on this particular model.
