Box with small sections of wear, top centre panel has been slightly pressed downwards causing it to breakaway, all four corners are splitting to some extent, remnant of old tooled leather trimming on the inside with probably later glued velvet interior. Some of the castellation lost from the top of the box, original label on the base is rather scuffed.
Black chessmen
King has lost its finial
Tiny amount of chipping to the castellations of Queens crown
Both bishops have lost finials
Both knights strangely discoloured to a brownish tone with matting to the finish, one with red crown struck to the top
Castles - one with chunk of castellation missing and red crown struck to the top, the other with tiny foot rim chip
Pawns - one with chips to foot rim, two with extensive losses to the rim beneath the ball finials
Opposing side
King - lacks finials, dent to top edge, stamped Jaques London to footrim
Queen - chips to coronet, generally grubby
Bishops - both have lost finials
Knights - both rather discoloured and dirty, one with loss of the top of its mouth and red crown stamp to top of head
Castles - one rather grubby, the other with red crown stamp
Pawns - four of them dirt splashed, one with chip to ring beneath finial.
