A Staffordshire slipware dish, c.1720-40, in the manner of Samuel Malkin (1668-1741) press moulded and slip decorated predominantly in brown and ochre under a lead glaze with a central square issuing scrolling tendrils and flowers, dot border and piecrust edge, unmarked, diameter 36cm (14.1in.)

There is stained crazing to the glaze, all over the interior of the dish there is some abrasion to the glaze on the raised areas on the interior of the dish, the dark brown glaze has a slight lustres to it, there are occasional deep scratches to the glaze on the interior, the underside of the dish shows some wear to the base consistent with age, there are occasional indentations to the potting of the dish, with one large indentation / loss to the back of the dish near the rim measuring 11 x 13mm which appears to be in manufacture but does not go through to the front of the dish, no restoration, chips or cracks but the dish not ring when tapped.
