Lot 165 , A Regency mahogany chiffonier, W. 2ft 2in. D.1ft 2in. H.4ft 3in.

A Regency mahogany chiffonier, W. 2ft 2in. D.1ft 2in. H.4ft 3in.

A Regency mahogany chiffonier, with two open shelves fitted with lattice brass gallery and side panels over a frieze drawer and two doors with silk pleated oval panels, on turned tapered legs and fitted brass castors, W. 2ft 2in. D.1ft 2in. H.4ft 3in.
Estimate £600-800

Brass three quarter gallery has come away from the top at some point and is now poorly attached, a slight bending to the brass and a break in the veneer to the top left side, the lattice work has broken away from its base for approx. 10 inches along the back and the right side equally has broken away with a loss of veneer that was concealing the screw, otherwise lower right lattice panel has come loose but remains with the piece, mid shelf shows some discolouration and rubbing where it meets the backboard, a long wavering horizontal split runs through the backboard beneath the mid shelf and where this backboard attaches to the top of the main carcass it is starting to pull away and there are some cracks to each side, drawer comes with original key but is slightly bent, drawer which has grooves carved into the back and sides suggesting that at some point it had a compartmented interior, some re-veneering near the escutcheons which appear to have been relocated, each dropping down approx an inch lower than where the originals were placed, some patching and splitting around this area, a little ebonised banding missing from the top right of the left door, interior lacks shelves but retains grooves to the left and right side, overall a handsome piece of furniture of good colour but in need of some assorted restoration work.
