A Naval Air Service History silver and enamel medal by Carrington & Co., London, with an enamel picture of the aircraft to the obverse above the date; 10th August 1912, and with engraving to the reverse commemorating; ‘The First Flight to London on a Hydro Aeroplane to London by F.K. McClean on a 70hps Short Biplane’, with maker’s stamp above and hallmarks below. Condition - fair to good. Sir Francis Kennedy McLean (1876-1955), was a pioneer aviator and founding member of the Royal Aero Club. His relationship with the Short Brothers led to key early 20th century developments in aeronautical engineering. He also worked with the Admiralty and developed techniques of aerial photography.
