A Japanese black lacquer travelling chest, Meiji period, with gilt copper mounts and gilt scrolling floral decoration, the lid enclosing a tray, W.2ft 1in. D.1ft 5in. H.1ft 4in.

The chest has wear and scuffing to the gilding on top and one of the mounts that is on the top going across to the side is lloose but present. There are some considerable losses to the lacquer around one side of the cover and around the base of the chest on the exterior. Some of the brass mounts are bent around the corners of the chest. There are hinged carrying handles to each side which are slightly bent. The chest has an interior tray with Nashiji ground and has some scuffing and losses on the exterior. The interior of the chest has a red paper lining with a visible split to the base panel, otherwise a decorative piece with some damage.
