A Gillows Aesthetic Movement walnut, parcel gilt and thuya wood secretaire cabinet attributed to H. W. Batley, c 1880's stamped 'Gillows 13165', the upper section fitted cupboards, drawers and shelves and decorated with gilt ground panels of flowers and neo-classical maidens, the base having a finely tooled leather-panelled fall enclosing a fitted interior over a further cupboard on turned supports, H 209 cm W 102cm

Upper raised back section is a dull dark brown walnut tone, the rest of the piece is a warm reddish tone. Lines of parcel gilding are a little rubbed.
There is a rail missing from the top of the open bookcase section.
One key fits all of the locks (which all work).
Some losses to the skiver on the slope (although the loose pieces have been kept). Slope is also faded around the edges.
Internal skivers a little rubbed.
Otherwise light scuffing and minor dents throughout but overall good honest condition.
