The watch was passed down through the vendor's mother family (Arnold) from Jane Elizabeth Elson who married into the family in 1835 Her father was a merchant associated with the East India Company., who we know died by 1821. He was given a number of presents in India at his retirement, including this gold watch, presented by the father of Bahadar Shah (last of the Moguls).
