Lot 150 , A George III silver inset papier mache tea caddy, height 4.75in.

A George III silver inset papier mache tea caddy, height 4.75in.

A George III silver inset papier mache tea caddy, centred with a Jasper style plaque of a lady representing Hope, old labels to the base including Midland Counties Art Museum Nottingham Castle, c.1880, height 4.75in.
Estimate £200-300

The cover is detached with a large section of the back edge of the cover where the hinge joins, other very small losses around the edge of the cover, there are a few minor nibbles around the top and bottom edges of the caddy space and there are numerous minor scratches to the surface all over, there appears to be some sort of varnish over the top of the inlay so isn't definite that is is silver inlay, possibly just a white metal, there is a small flowerhead loss to the inlay on the front, one bell husk also, the floral lining to the interior is all flaking off and the clasp for lock mechanism is lacking, on the inside is a recess where you can see the back of the adjustable plaque, nice old labels to the base which have some slight losses to them.
Structurally sound, can see back of plaque and this is jasper.
Probably tin not silver.
