A George III pink topaz brooch/hair ornament, early 19th century, of diadem design, composed of cushion-shaped and circular-cut pink topazes in closed settings, mounted in gold, length 7.8cm, one stone replaced with rock crystal

Condition:
Replacement stone is a rock crystal, and is loose. Other stones may be foiled and the foiling may be enhancing colour, but all a pale, slightly violet pink typical of naturally coloured pink topaz, with slight variations, minor wear to facet edges but no major damage to them. Brooch fitting appears original and has age, but shape of brooch more likely originally a hair ornament. one break between two topazes on bottom row - had been previously repaired with lead solder. One join between collets on top row has previously been broken and reinforced to the reverse. Looks strong and not visible from the front. Largest pink topaz approximately 13 x 7mm x 5.7mm (5.7mm depth includes closed back setting). Overall very attractive. Gross weight approximately 19.5 grams.
