Lot 518 , A George III mahogany serpentine chest, W.3ft D.1ft 7in. H.2ft 8in.
A George III mahogany serpentine chest, with straight sides and four graduated long drawers, on bracket feet, W.3ft D.1ft 7in. H.2ft 8in.
Estimate £2,000-3,000
Overall of good mid brown mahogany tone, top looks a little richer and may well have been repolished relatively recently, one or two old and more recent surface scuffs and scratches to the top, with signs of old cracks which now look to be stable and one tiny triangular patched repair to the front edge, sides again with old dents and scuffs but nothing recent and no sign of any splitting, drawer fronts a little faded but still retaining some strength of colour, handles and locks look originall, no key present, cock beading a little worn, and slightly faded particularly at the bottom of the top drawer and top of the second drawer, one replacement section of cockbeading to the top left of the bottom drawer, fair wear and tear to the foot, overall a good honest piece.
