A George III mahogany bureau bookcase, with mirrored doors over a fall enclosing a well-fitted interior, two short and three graduated long drawers, W.3ft 7in. D.2ft 1in. H.7ft
Estimate £600-800

This is probaly late George II c.1750. It is one of the best quality bureau bokcases I have seen in 20years of cataloguing furniture. It is reasonable condition and has probably had restoration work in the last 30 years. The bocase section has some splits to the interior panels, the mirrors are proabbly Victorian replacements and the panels behind them are fixed with screws but have holes where they were onced pinned. There is a burn mark to the left candle slide.. There are two splits to the fall and three holes to the veneer where the screws for the lock plate have pushed through at the front. The right side of the bureau has a vertical spilt and a slight dent. Two of the left corners of the bureau have some wax filler as does an area each side of the lock catch. The interior has some loose and lost mouldings and is of fine quality construction and materials. Most of the drawers mahogany base panels are split and have had some remedial repairs. All of the brass fittings appear to be original. Unusual bracket feet. We have two keys for the bureau lock and the bookcase lock.
